I wanted to take some kinda-sorta old-fashioned pics of Oliver wearing a hand-knit sweater set he got from a friend of ours before he was born. I thought she might enjoy a copy, for posterity, and I wanted to hone up my kinda-sorta vintage photographic skills. You know the kind - placid baby sitting upright, looking soberly at the camera, garbed in something delicate.
Well.
Either babies have changed in the last 100 years, my camera-side manner isn't as baby friendly as it could be, or else, and we mustn't rule this out, Oliver just has ants in his pants. How, I ask myself, did those photographers do it - and without the convenience of digital?!? In the time that it took for me to sit Oliver sweetly, bring the camera to my eye, and push the button, he was already on his way somewhere else. In order to get the above pic, here's just a sampling of what we went through.
Better things to do...
...like investigating the craftsmanship of the dresser...
...playing with his BFF, "The Boy In The Mirror,"
...or threatening to throw himself over the edge of said dresser, delighting in the swiftness with which he can make Mummy move.
By the time this one was taken, supposedly showing off the little knit booties, he was so not into it - note the reflection in the mirror, actually bracing against Photo Assistant Daddy.
But there were a few cute ones that almost landed the look I wanted. Let's leave on a happy note (something I wish Oliver would have agreed to ;^)

I love the first photo, his look reminds me of a mini Rembrandt!
Those are so cute. I'm sure it took a while to get a good shot 100years ago as well.
Hahaha I feel your pain! Took 88, count 'em, 88 photos of Scarlett in that Easter dress, most of them blurred or otherwise useless, just to get a handful of presentable shots.
My fav. of Oliver is the one with the teddy in the foreground (not to be confused with "doggy in the background").
We must have a joint photo session with the two of them soon (but perhaps we'll wait until Scarlett can at least sit up on her own...)!
He's such a busy boy! The pics are cute even if he isn't posing. He does have a certain Rembrandt quality about him;perhaps the jonty angle of his, shall we say, beret?
