I was washing up the dishes while Oliver was playing on the island, behind me, with his button collection. Or so I thought. I turned, just in time to see him slice his third and final banana in half with the bread knife I apparently left out. I tried to sound angry to cover up my amusement at seeing the bananas hanging there like that, one clean slice each, almost-but-not-quite through, but I'm not sure even he was convinced - although I really wasn't happy he was playing with knives. That's okay, I was going to make banana bread anyway ...

a boy, a knife and a trio of bananas

kin
When Big Brover is not actually pinching his baby sister, slapping her, WALKING on her or, ahem, riding his push car into her basket bed while she's trying to sleep, it's actually quite compelling to see the two young siblings connect. Witness, above, the spontanious display of affection. And, best of all, no young babies were hurt in the photographing of this scene :)

the travel bug
This morning I asked Oliver, age two, what he wanted to do today. He said, "Go to England." While I thought that sounded like a jolly idea, I explained that England was too far away and takes a whole day to fly there. What else would he like to do? "Fly in airplane," he responded. Right. So I asked him what else he'd like to do today. Here was our conversation:
Oliver: Go to Canada.
Me: We're already in Canada.
Oliver: No, we're in our house.
Me: Yes, but our house is in Canada. We live in Canada.
Oliver: Go to Egypt.
I think he's inherited my travel bug.
