for the record

Just had to report that the temperature downtown, as I write this, is 44 C. Yes, 44 C. That's 111.2 F, for those who don't know celsius.

I really don't know what else I could say that would actually add to that.

"Stay cool," perhaps, would be appropriate.

Is this normal for Kelowna in the summer?

Actually, I was reading in today's paper that the high was only 40 C downtown, which is significantly less. Silk FM is the one that reported 44 C, and no, it most certainly is NOT normal for Kelowna. I've NEVER heard of it getting that hot (although a more reliable radio station, the CBC, reported today that it's been 45 C in Southern California for the last 10 days!) 40 C is, however, more normal here - at least for a couple of days in the midsummer. I think the hottest I heard rumoured was 42 C, back in the late '90s. But for the record, it felt like 44 C, it did!

I heard that 29 people died from the heat in California.
