quickening

I felt the baby move for the first time, about 20 minutes ago. Actually, it's been fluttering around for the past 20 minutes. Every minute or two, there's this feeling like a miniscule nerve spasm, in the lower right hand corner of my abdomen. Kelly assures me this is the quickening.

According to pregnancy.about.com, my calculated quickening date (the date you first feel the baby move) is Dec. 29, so if I'm right, and the Little Lump is starting its acrobatics, it's pretty much right on schedule. Or at least my recognition of it is. Apparently, mothers on their second, third, fourth, etc. pregnancy recognize it much earlier because they know what they're feeling.

So far, it's been easy to forget that I'm actually with child, since there's not much of a bump yet and I haven't been plagued with mood swings or morning sickness. This new little milestone is a cool little message: "hey, I'm in here - don't forget about me."

Can't wait for it to happen again. . . .

That's so exciting! I was actually in the Library at Newbold when I first felt Genevieve move. It felt like a little flock of butterflies in my lower abdomen - very gentle and slightly tickly.

Awesome.

Have you felt it again since?

Hey Wendy, good to hear from you! I think in a library - even Newbold's - is a much more interesting place to feel a baby move for the first time. It certainly beats surfing the internet! I've only felt it once since, Amanda, when I was in bed, sick, with the flu. I think the trick is - at least at this stage - to be still and quiet in order to recognize it - something I haven't been much over the Christmas holidays. I understand, however, that once the kicking starts, it won't matter what I'm doing, it'll have my attention!

Something terrible happened. I can't leave comments in my name anymore. This happened after I switched to a google acount. I hate it. Do not switch if they ask you. You can never go back.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I've seen the offers but am always too lazy to upgrade and so I never did. I'm pretty satisfied with my account how it is. But now I especially won't change it!

Maybe you have to log in as your google alias, rather than the old blogger one... I havent bothered either, but not because I'm lazy, but I'm paranoid signing up for more rubbish online accounts - spam heaven!

I think it might work this time but I don't know what I did.
