Right. I've been a bit neglegent with my blogging in the last week or two, due mostly to other, grander issues that have eaten up my time/attention (unexpected True Connections spin-offs, you could say). Still mildly overwhellmed from all the thought/emotion that's gone into them, I'm going to go to the other extreme and post something completely frivolous. It's something that's bothered me for a really long time, and it's time I get this off my chest. It's about the term "bite-size," and why it should be banned. Feel free to make this a movement.
Right, let's analyze. In order for something to be legitimately "bite" sized, you must be able to bite it. All food, then, is technically bite sized since you take bites out of it. All except so-called "bite-sized" foods. These, one simply stuffs into ones mouth whole, all at once, and chews. Therefore, you don't bite them at all. They are not, then, "bite" sized.
So.
It should follow that they must not be called bite-sized any longer, but CHEW-sized nibblies. Call a horse a horse and all that. Therefore, chew-sized brownies, chew-sized doughnuts, chew-sized canapés, the list can go on and on. The point is, STOP THE INSANITY!!!!
Okay, better now. That didn't take long, so now you have time to go do something else - post a comment, perhaps? Show some support to the cause? Or relate what gets under your skin, perhaps? Keep the dialogue going!

Better termed "mouth sized," I think. Because a bite is only the size of your mouth. You can't have a bite bigger than your mouth - though some people try. That's all I'm saying.

Is it not, presumably, a brownie the size of one bite? Ergo, bite-sized. Just to argue. But then, who's to say what the size of one bite really is? Certainly not the people who sized said brownie, which takes me three bites, on average, to devour. ~ dh
If you are taking bites out of said brownie, and it sounds like you are, it is, in fact, bite sized and the term can stick. If, however, it has been measured to fit into the mouth all in one go, sized to the bite, as it were, and therefore you have not bit into it yourself, you cannot and must not call it bite sized. It then becomes chew-sized because that's your only involvement in the consumption of the thing. Ken?
