I have long boasted about how coffee has no effect on me whatsoever. How I can drink five cups and go straight to sleep, or, conversely, quit at the drop of a hat without experiencing any withdrawal at all.
But it seems that more than a year-and-a-half without my second favourite drink (yes, water is first) has changed that. Disconcertingly.
Last night, there was an outdoor concert in the park by my house, and Starbucks had a booth set up, with free coffees. Just little ones, mind you - micro talls? - but you could return as many times as you liked. Darcie and I had three cups (er, each). Only the first one was caffeinated, but WOW! By the time I got home I was feeling, well, a little bit excited.
When bedtime came, I drifted off to sleep fairly quickly, but then awoke about an hour later ready to do jumping jacks. I stayed awake for - I don't know - two hours?? - after that. Maybe more? My mind was spinning with suddenly pressing issues, like what will I put on my FB update in the morning? I also thought about my sadly neglected blog and how it's not what I originally hoped for it to be and how I need to start posting at least once a week - not just updates about Oliver but weird, trivial stuff, like this. Thoughts, ideas, experiences, stories.
Anyway, I suppose there's a lesson to be learned in there somewhere, probably something to do with moderation, but I'll probably do it again next time - although I'll try to do it earlier in the day.
